Surgery Rotation

Crozer Health has many locations throughout Delaware County and surrounding areas. For your convenience, a categorized listing of our facilities is below, all of which offer challenging and rewarding surgical clerkship rotations and highly specialized surgical electives.

You will have an opportunity to explore many different aspects of surgery, including general surgery, vascular surgery, trauma, surgical critical care, acute care surgery, bariatric surgery, minimally invasive, colorectal, hepatobiliary, as well as liver and kidney transplant surgery.

Crozer Health offers both inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Springfield Hospital, and Taylor Hospitals. We also perform outpatient surgery at two centers: The Surgery Center at Haverford and the Surgery Center at Brinton Lake.

Crozer-Chester Medical Center has a long-standing tradition of teaching students and house staff. The combination of endless supply of surgical cases, daily bedside teaching rounds, frequent didactic lectures, mock simulations, and literature reviews will surely allow you to experience all aspects of the world of surgery.

Our surgical house staff is affiliated with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine General Surgery Program in Philadelphia, PA. There are nine surgical residents from junior to chief level currently rotating at all of our hospitals. They, as well as our entire attending staff, are committed to providing you with a positive, educationally rich and rewarding experience.

Program Overview

This rotation can be one of the most memorable experiences of your third year. This may be the only chance you will ever have to see such things as a liver transplant, open-heart surgery, a laparoscopic gastric bypass, a trauma or even an appendectomy. It can be an unbelievable experience, but we also recognize that it can be quite intimidating.

As faculty and residents, we see this as an opportunity to teach you some basic concepts about surgery that will benefit you, regardless of which field you chose to enter. It also gives us a chance to show you how exciting surgery can be and to give you a sense of why we chose it for our own careers. With the help of this guide, we hope to unlock the mystery of surgery, to provide some tips on how to excel on this rotation, and to outline your responsibilities.
